Mumbai BMC Partners With Dubai Firm For Cloud Seeding To Tackle Air Pollution

In the wake of Mumbai’s battle against air pollution, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is in discussions with a Dubai-based firm for a groundbreaking initiative. The plan involves entering into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to execute artificial rains through cloud seeding in the city.

"Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde announces collaboration between BMC and a Dubai-based firm for cloud seeding, a bold move to combat Mumbai's air pollution crisis."

CM Eknath Shinde took stock of the mitigation measures during the early hours of Tuesday. He evaluated the steps implemented by the BMC to combat pollution and urged the civic chief to allocate additional manpower to address the escalating issue.

Cloud Seeding Initiative

As Mumbai grapples with an air quality index (AQI) of 126, categorized as ‘moderate’ on Tuesday, CM Shinde emphasized the proactive measures taken by the BMC. While acknowledging the positive outcomes of current efforts, he also disclosed the city’s preparation for potential adversities. In line with this, the BMC is exploring cloud seeding as a strategy to induce artificial rain and mitigate pollution levels further.

CM’s Statement

Shinde, addressing reporters on Tuesday morning, stated, “At present, all possible mitigation measures have been undertaken by BMC on a war footing to curb air pollution, and we are also seeing results in many ways. However, we are also preparing ourselves for any adversities and have taken up measures to carry cloud seeding for creating artificial rain.”

The move to engage with an international firm for cloud seeding reflects Mumbai’s commitment to exploring innovative solutions to combat air pollution. As discussions progress and plans take shape, the city is poised to pioneer a unique approach that could potentially set a precedent for other urban centers facing similar environmental challenges.
