Waterlogging due to heavy rainfall in Thane, Maharashtra, has resulted in the temporary closure of local train services between Badlapur and Ambernath. The excessive rain has led to flooding on the railway tracks, causing significant disruptions in the region.
Railway tracks flooded, restoration efforts underway
The railway tracks between Badlapur and Ambernath stations got flooded at around 10:30 am on Wednesday. As a result, Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Dr. Shivraj Manaspure, announced the closure of the Badlapur-Ambernath section for traffic due to water-logging. Restoration work is currently underway to address the situation and resume train services as soon as possible.
Impact on Central Railway’s operations
The Central Railway operates local train services on its Main Line, which stretches from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai to Kasara in Thane and Khopoli in Raigad district. In addition to this route, the Central Railway also operates suburban services on the Harbour Line, serving areas from CSMT to Panvel (Raigad) and Goregaon (Mumbai). The disruption caused by the flooded tracks has affected the smooth functioning of these services.

In response to the situation, authorities have deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams in Palghar and Raigad. Raigad District Collector Yogesh Mhase has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in the district as a precautionary measure.
