The Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh has been hit hard by heavy rainfall, causing widespread death and destruction. Cloudbursts and landslides have wreaked havoc on the region, leaving communities in dire need of assistance.
NDRF Swiftly Responds
In the face of this natural disaster, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has sprung into action. On Thursday, NDRF teams successfully rescued 51 individuals who were stranded in the aftermath of a cloudburst. The incident occurred at Shehnu Gouni and Kholanala villages in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.
An Uphill Battle
The NDRF operation comes amidst a challenging situation. The heavy rainfall has triggered landslides and floods, causing extensive damage. As per official data, numerous houses have been fully or partially damaged, and various structures such as shops and cow sheds have been adversely affected.
Former CM’s Plea for Help
Former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jairam Thakur, visited the affected areas and witnessed the devastation firsthand. He highlighted the urgent need for support, especially in remote locations like Kuklah, where damaged roads have cut off access and disrupted the supply of essential goods.
A Ray of Hope
Despite the grim circumstances, there is a glimmer of hope. A chopper carrying essential supplies, including rations and medicines, reached the Mandi district. The Mandi District Administration, in collaboration with the Air Force, managed to deliver these critical items to the remote areas, potentially alleviating the acute shortage of food caused by the disruption in connectivity.
A Call for Unity
In times of crisis, unity becomes more important than ever. The NDRF’s efforts, along with the determination of leaders like Jairam Thakur, reflect the resilience and solidarity of the people of Himachal Pradesh. As the region battles the aftermath of cloudbursts and landslides, the community’s spirit remains unbroken.
