On Tuesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials arrested a 25-year-old man from Ukkadam GM Nagar in connection with the Coimbatore car blast case. This marks the 12th arrest in the ongoing investigation. The suspect was taken to Chennai for questioning following the arrest.
Background of the Coimbatore Car Blast Incident
The car blast occurred in front of Sangameswarar temple in Coimbatore district before Deepavali on October 23, 2023. The incident resulted in the death of Jameesha Mubin, who was identified as the mastermind behind the mishap in the temple at Kottaimedu.
Mohammed Idris: Close Friend of Jameesha Mubin
The accused in the case, Mohammed Idris, hails from GM Nagar near Ukkadam in Coimbatore and was known to be a close friend of Jameesha Mubin. The NIA alleges that Mubin and his associates were planning major blasts in south India.
Investigation and Crucial Evidence
The conspiracy came to light when CCTV footage showed Mubin and three companions moving two gas cylinders and some explosives inside the car before the accident occurred. This footage became crucial evidence suggesting that Mubin was preparing to carry out a suicide bombing.
Opposition’s Accusation Against the State Government
In the aftermath of Jameesha Mubin’s death, the opposition accused the state government of not disclosing the full details of the car blast incident.
The investigation into the Coimbatore car blast case continues, and authorities are actively pursuing leads to unravel the entire network involved in the incident.
