Nitish Kumar Appointed As Convenor Of 11-Member INDIA Coordination Team: Sources

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to become the convenor of the 11-member coordination team for the newly formed alliance of 26 opposition parties named ‘INDIA,’ according to sources. The decision to appoint Nitish Kumar has been reportedly finalized, and the official announcement is scheduled to take place during the next opposition meeting in Mumbai.

Displeasure Over Coalition’s Name

Reports suggest that Nitish Kumar expressed dissatisfaction with the coalition’s name, ‘INDIA,’ which stands for Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance. His absence from the Opposition press conference further fueled speculations about his stance.

Uniting Against the Ruling NDA

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been chosen as the convenor of the 11-member INDIA Coordination Team, comprising 26 opposition parties. The decision, which comes ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, aims to present a united front against the ruling NDA. The official announcement of Nitish Kumar's appointment is expected to be made during the upcoming opposition meeting in Mumbai.

The formation of the ‘INDIA’ coalition is a significant move by the opposition parties as they prepare for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and aim to present a united front against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, during a press conference in Bengaluru, announced the formation of a committee comprising 11 members for coordination purposes. The convenor of the committee will be announced during the subsequent meeting in Mumbai. Additionally, a common secretariat will be established in Delhi for campaign management, and specific committees will be formed to address different issues.

Opposition’s Determination and Unity

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence in the coalition’s success and emphasized that the upcoming battle would be between ‘INDIA’ and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Despite differences among the opposition parties, Kharge stated that they have put those aside and are united in the interest of the country. The opposition parties aim to fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together and achieve success.
