The incident in Talawade highlighted the need for a dedicated burns ward, as victims had to endure a 25km journey to Pune for treatment. Recognizing this gap, PCMC is now considering two hospitals for the burns ward project.

Hospital Selection

PCMC is currently deliberating between Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital and Akurdi Hospital as potential locations for the burns ward. The choice is crucial, given the necessity for specialized medical personnel and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facility.

Commissioner’s Statement

Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized the importance of having specialist doctors and an ICU facility for the burns ward. He noted that YCM Hospital already possesses these essential facilities.

Meeting Details

The meeting held on Friday focused on evaluating the suitability of the proposed sites, establishing standards, and determining the capacity required for the burns ward.

In the wake of the Talawade incident, PCMC’s proactive approach to address the lack of a nearby burns ward is a significant step towards ensuring prompt and effective medical care during emergencies. The final decision on the hospital selection will play a crucial role in enhancing the region’s emergency medical services.
