According to sources cited by the news agency PTI, the derailment could be attributed to a track fault. The investigation report, signed by six railway officials, including the train’s driver, explicitly mentions, “It appears that derailment occurred due to track fault.” The estimated cost of the damage incurred during the accident is said to exceed Rs 52 crore.
The derailment, which occurred on a Wednesday night, resulted in the partial injury of the loco pilot and serious injuries to his assistant.
