Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially launch “Aadi Mahotsav,” the massive National Tribal Festival, at 10:30 a.m. today in Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. As such, it is an attempt to make tribal traditions more widely known. The Mahotsav honours traditional tribal art, music, dance, and food. This year, it will take place between February 16th and February 27th.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi has been at the forefront of efforts to improve the lives of the country’s tribal population and to recognise their importance to the nation’s progress. The Aadi Mahotsav is hosted by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs’ annual Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Limited (TRIFED).
Over 200 booths will be set up at the venue to display cultural artefacts and traditions from indigenous groups across the country. A thousand tribal artisans are expected to attend the Mahotsav. Along with the usual attractions such as handicrafts, handloom, pottery, jewellery, and so on, the Mahotsav will focus on showcasing Shree Anna grown by tribals, as 2023 is designated as the International Year of Millets.
