Punjab to get Med colleges…! As Minister for Medical Education and Research OP Soni said on Monday during the laying of an underpinning for the BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences at SAS Nagar, four new state government medical colleges will be up to Rs 1500 corres across Punjab.
Soni has said, before adding that there will soon not be any lack of doctors at Punjab, about 500 additional doctors will leave the new medical schools each year.
The first medical college to become operational in Mohali is expected to be, because a 300-bedded hospital already works and we simply have to increase it.
Roughly 80% of the faculty have been recruited to the Mohali Medical College already and the recruitment process is under way for paramedics and other support staff,” he said.
Soni added “We have requested the Mohali plant to inspect the NMC and expect the first batch to start this year.”
In a state-of-the art multistorey building with ortho, paeds, ENT, derma and a dedicated blood bank, as well as seven, 200 bed new hospital blocks will also be housed.
Consultants have also been approved for Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala medical colleges, according to the Health Minister, and designs are being reviewed. Tenders will be issued once the building designs have been finalised.
