Chandigarh, November 16, 2023 – In a significant move against drug abuse, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann flagged off what is being hailed as the ‘country’s biggest cycle rally’ from the grounds of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana. The rally, organized by the Ludhiana police in collaboration with the local administration, witnessed the participation of over 20,000 cyclists, according to CP Sidhu.
Rally Commemorates Ghadar Leader’s Martyrdom
The event, held on the martyrdom day of Kartar Singh Sarabha, a Ghadar leader who was executed by the British in 1915 at the age of 19, holds historical significance. CM Mann, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, Ludhiana police commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu, and PAU vice-chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal marked the commencement of the rally by cycling themselves.
Mann’s Call to End Drugs
During the flagging-off ceremony, Chief Minister Mann delivered a powerful message, stating, “If Punjabis vow to end drugs, nothing can stop them.” The rally is seen as a collective effort to combat the issue of drug abuse in the region.
