Rajasthan Tiger Roams Kuno Park: Cheetahs Safe, Officials Confirm

A sub-adult tiger from Rajasthan has ventured into Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park (KNP), a reserve where efforts to reintroduce cheetahs from Africa are underway. The unexpected presence of the tiger has sparked discussions about potential threats to the cohabiting cheetahs.
Concerns for Cheetahs

Officials are closely monitoring the situation, emphasizing that the cheetahs face no immediate threat. This assurance is grounded in the precautionary measures taken, such as housing the cheetahs in soft enclosures known as ‘bomas’ within the park.
Weight Disparity
Highlighting the significant size difference between tigers and cheetahs, officials note that the average weight of a male tiger is around 200 kg, while a male cheetah weighs between 55 and 60 kg. This weight contrast adds a layer of reassurance regarding potential confrontations between the two big cat species.
Leopard Behavior
Officials further point out that even leopards, typically formidable predators, exhibit wariness and fear in the presence of tigers. This observation supports the notion that the tiger’s arrival might not immediately endanger the cheetahs.
As the situation unfolds, the wildlife authorities at Kuno National Park remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of coexistence strategies to ensure the well-being of both tigers and cheetahs in this unique conservation setting.
