Cricketer Rinku Singh Gets Engaged to Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj in Intimate Lucknow Ceremony

The Indian cricketer and the young SP parliamentarian exchanged rings in a private gathering attended by close family, politicians, and cricket officials.

Lucknow, June 8: The air at The Centrum in Lucknow was unusually still on Sunday morning—no loud music, no flood of paparazzi, no red carpet. But within the quietly guarded halls of the luxury venue, a significant moment was unfolding. Rinku Singh, the hard-hitting Indian cricketer known for his late-over fireworks, formally got engaged to Priya Saroj, a newly elected Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party.

A Ceremony Built on Simplicity, Not Spectacle

The engagement wasn’t flashy. It didn’t need to be. There were no drones, no celebrity photographers stationed at the gates, and no grand announcements in advance. What there was, however, was a kind of warm, understated elegance that gave away the seriousness of the occasion.

Rinku, who has come to be seen as a grounded, no-frills figure in Indian cricket, was dressed in an off-white sherwani. Priya, just 25 and one of the youngest MPs in the country, chose a pastel pink lehenga. Together, they exchanged rings in the presence of just over a hundred guests—mostly family, close political allies, and a few familiar names from cricket.

Their day began not at the venue but at the Chaudhera Wali Vichitra Devi Temple, where the couple, accompanied by their parents, offered prayers. According to those present, there was no fanfare. Just folded hands, quiet rituals, and a few smiles exchanged between the two families.

Guests Included Top Names from Politics and Cricket

The ceremony was attended by some prominent figures, including Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, and Jaya Bachchan, all of whom have longstanding ties with the Saroj family. On the cricketing side, Rajeev Shukla, a senior official in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was among the invitees.

There were no speeches. No lengthy photo ops. Just a small moment of celebration—intimate, warm, and deliberately away from the noise.

Two Lives, Two Journeys Converge

Rinku Singh, who hails from Aligarh, has often spoken about his humble beginnings. He’s not someone who posts frequently on social media or makes headlines off the field. But on the pitch, especially during his tenure with the Kolkata Knight Riders, he’s made a name for himself as one of the most promising finishers in the Indian T20 circuit.

Priya Saroj, by contrast, has taken a different route to national attention. A lawyer by training, she won her seat from Machhlishahr in Uttar Pradesh earlier this year, continuing the political legacy of her father, Tufani Saroj. She’s articulate, serious about her role, and has already made a mark as a first-time MP. Her background in constitutional law and legal policy has earned her quiet respect across party lines.

While their professions are different, what they share—according to those close to both—is a kind of inner calm and focus that’s rare in the public eye.

November Wedding Set in Varanasi

If the engagement was modest, the wedding might strike a different note. Sources familiar with the planning say the families are looking at November 18 as the wedding date, with Varanasi being the likely venue. Though formal invitations haven’t been issued, insiders say the celebrations will be rooted in tradition.

Both families are keen to keep the spiritual tone that marked Sunday’s engagement, but with a broader guest list—expecting a mix of political leaders, cricketers, and well-wishers from across the state and beyond.

Social Media Lights Up—but the Couple Remains Quiet

While Rinku and Priya didn’t post anything on their social handles, the news leaked quickly—first through local reporters in Lucknow and then through national outlets. Within hours, social media was flooded with wishes. On X (formerly Twitter), hashtags like #RinkuSingh and #PriyaSaroj started trending.

But unlike many public figures who amplify every personal moment, the couple has chosen silence. No official photos, no joint statement. Just a quiet, shared step forward in front of the people who matter most to them.

Not Just a Relationship—A Signal of the Times

There’s something undeniably symbolic about this union. One comes from cricket’s fast-paced world, the other from the often slow, procedural grind of Parliament. One grew up in the backdrop of stadiums and cheers, the other in the halls of power and public meetings. But both, in their own way, represent the face of young, aspirational India—deeply rooted in their backgrounds, yet ready to shape new paths.

In a landscape often dominated by spectacle, this engagement stood out for its sincerity. It wasn’t a show. It was a decision. A commitment. And that, in today’s world, may be the most extraordinary thing of all.
