At Google I/O 2023, Google introduced its first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold. This device joins the growing list of foldable phones in the market. The Pixel Fold features a book-like folding design that transforms its tall phone screen into a tablet-shaped display, similar to Samsung Galaxy Fold phones.
Pixel Fold Specifications
The Pixel Fold comes with a 5.8-inch OLED cover display and a 7.6-inch OLED internal display, both offering a smooth 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It is powered by Google’s Tensor G2 processor, paired with 12GB RAM, and offers two storage options: 256GB and 512GB. The phone retains the iconic Pixel camera band design and features a triple camera setup on the back, as well as two selfie cameras—one on the cover screen and one on the main screen.
To keep the Pixel Fold running, it is equipped with a 4,812mAh battery and supports 30W fast charging. It comes with Android 14 out of the box, showcasing Google’s software and hardware integration. However, the Pixel Fold’s premium features come at a high price of $1,799 (approximately Rs 1,48,800).
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
Samsung, a pioneer in the foldable phone market, presents a strong competitor to the Pixel Fold with its Galaxy Z Fold 4. Priced at Rs. 1,54,999, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 offers a stunning 6.2-inch AMOLED 2X cover display with HD+ resolution and a 7.6-inch AMOLED 2X main display with QXGA+ resolution. Both displays support a 120Hz refresh rate, providing an immersive viewing experience.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, paired with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB storage, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 delivers exceptional performance for various tasks. It features a triple camera setup on the back, including a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with OIS and 3X optical zoom, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with a 123-degree field of view. Additionally, there are two selfie cameras—one on the cover screen and another on the main screen—for capturing memorable moments.
Other Foldable Phone Options
Apart from the Pixel Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 4, there are several other foldable phones available in the market. These include the Oppo Find Flip N2, Tecno Phantom V Fold, and Samsung Galaxy Flip 3. These devices offer their unique features and specifications to cater to different consumer preferences.
While foldable phones are still in their early stages, they provide an innovative and versatile option for users seeking a blend of portability and larger display capabilities.
