Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has emphasized the importance of opposition parties staying united and setting aside political ambitions to protect democracy and fight in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Raut’s remarks came after a key unity meeting of opposition parties in Patna, attended by Uddhav Thackeray, former Maharashtra chief minister, his son Aaditya Thackeray, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut.
Last Chance to Protect Democracy: Uddhav Thackeray’s Warning
During the meeting, Uddhav Thackeray expressed concerns over the 2024 Lok Sabha election, stating that if there is no change in power, it could be the last election. In response, Sanjay Raut highlighted the need for opposition parties to unite and fight the election without focusing on politics and personal ambitions. He stressed the importance of protecting democracy through collective action.
Political Parties Urged to Show National Interest for Democracy’s Survival
Ahead of the opposition meeting in Patna, the Shiv Sena (UBT) made similar remarks, stating that political parties must demonstrate a sense of national interest if democracy is to survive beyond 2024. In an editorial published in the party’s mouthpiece ‘Saamana,’ it was argued that the national ambitions of parties like the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, indirectly aid Prime Minister Narendra Modi and support dictatorship. These parties are in direct competition with the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in various states.
Importance of Unity and Confidence Among Voters
To ensure the survival of democracy, political leaders are urged to demonstrate unity and prioritize the national interest. The collective action and unity among opposition parties will instill confidence among voters and strengthen democratic values. The need to set aside political differences and work together for the greater good of the nation is crucial in the face of potential challenges to democracy.
