According to The Mirror, seven people were shot and killed in Brazil after two men were insulted for losing a pool game. One of the victims was a 12-year-old girl.
According to Mirror, which cited Newsflash, the men went on a shooting spree after losing two games in a row in Sinop, Mato Grosso state.
A video of the incident has also been viewed millions of times on the internet. In the chilling footage, one man can be seen lining up the victims against the wall, as if preparing for an execution, while another man goes to a pickup truck and retrieves a shotgun.
The pool hall was the scene of a shooting that claimed the lives of seven people, the youngest of whom was only 12 years old.
In the video, one of the men pulls out a handgun and shoots the other man, who is wearing a white T-shirt, from close range. According to the Mirror, a female witness was seen raising her arms as the gunmen fled the scene of the massacre.
The robbers flee with a woman’s purse and some spare change from the pool tables.
The incident claimed the lives of six people ranging in age from 12 to 48. The victims were identified as Larissa Frasao de Almeida, 12, Orisberto Pereira Sousa, 38, Adriano Balbinote, 46, Getulio Rodrigues Frasao Junior, 36, Josue Ramos Tenorio, 48, and Maciel Bruno de Andrade Costa, 35, according to the report.
Elizeu Santos da Silva, 47, was the seventh fatality and was later pronounced dead.
Police have identified the shooters as Edgar Ricardo de Oliveira, 30, and Ezequias Souza Ribeiro, 27; both men have since fled the scene.
“On Tuesday morning, Oliviera played a pool game against one of the victims and lost around 4,000 reais (£640),” Civil Police Delegate Braulio Junqueira told the Mirror.
“In the afternoon, he returned with Ezequiel and challenged the man again, but this time he lost, prompting bystanders to laugh,” he said.
“Given the circumstances,” the officer continued, “it appears that some of the victims may not have even been involved with the game that was taking place at the establishment.”
Oliveira had a history of domestic violence arrests, according to the report, while Souza’s criminal history included multiple firearms violations, gang robberies, assaults, and threats.
