Sensex Index Jumps by 556 Points, Nifty Index Surpasses 18,250: Bajaj Finance and HDFC are the Biggest Gainers
On May 4, 2023, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) benchmark Sensex index rose by 556 points and closed at 61,749, the highest level for the calendar year.
Similarly, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index increased by 166 points and closed at 18,256, after touching a high of 18,267. The gainers on the Sensex included Bajaj Finance, HDFC twins, Bajaj Finserv, Asian Paints, and SBI, while the losers were IndusInd Bank, Nestle, Tata Motors, ITC, PowerGrid, and Wipro. In the midcap and smallcap sectors, the BSE indices increased by 0.8%, and the breadth was very positive, with nearly two advancing shares for every declining stock on the BSE.
Top Gainers and Losers in Stock Market
On the 30-share Sensex platform, Bajaj Finance, HDFC twins, Bajaj Finserv, Asian Paints, and SBI emerged as the top gainers. On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, Nestle, Tata Motors, ITC, PowerGrid, and Wipro were among the losers.
Performance of Sectors
The BSE Bankex sector grew by 0.9%, while the Metal, Healthcare, and Consumer Durables indices increased by over 0.5% each.
Previous Day’s Trading
In the previous session, on May 3, the Sensex had closed at 61,193, down by 161 points from a low of 61,024, while the Nifty had fallen by 58 points to 18,090.
