The Delhi Capitals have officially announced the inclusion of Afghanistan’s left-handed batter, Sediqullah Atal, as a replacement for England’s Harry Brook for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.
Atal, 23, has garnered attention with his consistent performances in T20 cricket, amassing 1,507 runs in 49 matches at an average of 34.25, including 13 half-centuries.
Sediqullah Atal’s Cricketing Journey
Atal rose to prominence during the Kabul Premier League in 2023, where he delivered a remarkable unbeaten 118 off 56 balls, including seven fours and ten sixes. In the tournament final, he scored a rapid 103 off just 42 deliveries.
His international acclaim was further solidified with an 85-run innings against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.
Atal also played a pivotal role in Afghanistan’s victory at the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024, topping the run-scorers’ chart with 368 runs in five matches.
Delhi Capitals’ Perspective
Hemang Badani, Head Coach of Delhi Capitals, expressed enthusiasm about Atal’s addition: “We are excited to welcome Atal to the Delhi Capitals. He is an exciting, young talent who has impressed everyone with his performances for both the Afghanistan youth and senior teams. Going into this important phase of the tournament, his presence will certainly add depth to our batting lineup.”
What Lies Ahead
Atal’s inclusion comes at a crucial juncture for the Delhi Capitals as they prepare to face the Punjab Kings in their 12th league game of the IPL 2025 season on Thursday, 8th May 2025, in Dharamsala.
Fans and analysts alike will be keen to see how Atal adapts to the IPL environment and contributes to the team’s performance in the remaining matches.
