Keshav Maurya Lauds Laghu Udyog Kendra’s Role in Empowering Women and Creating Jobs

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Thursday visited the Laghu Udyog Kendra (Small Industries Centre) in Lucknow, where he interacted with women undergoing vocational training and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering rural entrepreneurs and unemployed youth.

He announced that training programs—already active at the centre—would now be scaled up to the divisional, district, tehsil, and block levels, ensuring wider accessibility and outreach.

“Training programs are conducted here regularly. After training, if you want to set up a unit, schemes from both Central and State Governments provide subsidies and loans,” Maurya said.

Laghu Udyog Kendra: A Platform for Empowerment

Maurya emphasized that the centre functions as a crucial enabler for women’s empowerment, backed by flagship missions like:

  • NRLM – National Rural Livelihoods Mission
  • SRLM – State Rural Livelihoods Mission

“This small industries centre is a tool for women’s empowerment,” he said.

Maurya also praised the installation of a solar power plant, which has reduced electricity bills from over ₹1 lakh to ₹35,000, making the operations more sustainable and cost-effective.

He pointed out that the availability of modern machinery can enable the production of diverse products, helping women increase their incomes.

Awareness Gap Hindering Reach

Despite the infrastructure and support systems in place, lack of awareness continues to deprive many beneficiaries of opportunities. Maurya urged youth and aspiring entrepreneurs to explore the food processing policy, which outlines viable business ideas that can be launched with government support.

“If our youth want to establish employment, the government is standing with them,” Maurya reiterated.

Government Schemes Available for Trainees

The UP Deputy CM mentioned that those who complete training at centres like Laghu Udyog Kendra can benefit from:

  • Subsidies for equipment and setup
  • Bank-linked loans under MSME schemes
  • Guidance on product development and market linkage

These offerings are especially beneficial for women-led businesses and rural startups.

Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak Reviews Health Facilities in Gorakhpur

While Maurya focused on employment generation, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak visited Gorakhpur to assess the Community Health Centre (CHC) facilities.

He conducted a review meeting and instructed officials to:

  • Ensure cleanliness across all hospitals
  • Maintain doctor availability
  • Supply essential medicines consistently
  • Address staff shortages, empowering CMOs and DMs to make urgent appointments

“Patients must receive high-quality care in all circumstances,” Pathak said.

CM Yogi Adityanath to Lay Foundation for UP’s Largest Night Shelter

In another major development, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will lay the foundation stone for the largest night shelter in Eastern UP at AIIMS, Gorakhpur on Friday, April 18.

Key details:

  • Capacity: 500 individuals
  • Cost: ₹44 crore
  • Funding: Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by Power Grid Corporation of India

This shelter is part of the state’s broader effort to support the homeless and migrant workers, especially near medical institutions and urban zones.

What This Means for You

If you’re a young entrepreneur, homemaker, or rural woman interested in setting up a small-scale business, the Laghu Udyog Kendra offers:

  • Free or subsidised training programs
  • Financial support through subsidies and loans
  • Access to modern, solar-powered machinery
  • Women-centric economic empowerment programs

The government’s push to decentralize training ensures that even rural and block-level candidates will have access to opportunity.

  • Contact your local Laghu Udyog Kendra or district NRLM office to enroll in a training program.
  • Explore food processing policies and product opportunities in your area.
  • Apply for MSME loans post-training with guidance from the Udyog Kendra.
  • Use the solar model as a case study to reduce operational costs for small businesses.

Who Will Be Affected

  • District-level administration responsible for implementing training modules
  • Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) looking to expand product lines

Laghu Udyog Kendra as a Beacon of Opportunity

The Laghu Udyog Kendra in Lucknow stands as a model for skill-based empowerment, especially for women and unemployed youth. With plans to expand training across all levels and provide access to financial and infrastructure support, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya’s vision offers a sustainable pathway to self-reliance and prosperity.

Meanwhile, parallel developments in health and infrastructure—such as Gorakhpur’s hospital reviews and the upcoming night shelter at AIIMS—underscore the multi-pronged approach being taken by the Uttar Pradesh Government to uplift all segments of society.
