The renowned Indian classical dancer, Padma Subrahmanyam, expressed her elation on Thursday as the symbolic ‘Sengol’ sceptre finds a permanent place in the new Parliament building. According to Subrahmanyam, the ‘Sengol’ represents justice and the transfer of power.
Bringing ‘Sengol’ to Public Attention
Subrahmanyam, who wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the significance of ‘Sengol,’ stated that she was unaware of its historical importance as it is not mentioned in textbooks. She took the initiative to translate an article about ‘Sengol’ and sent it to the Prime Minister, emphasizing the need for its wide publicity during the 75th year of India’s independence celebration.
Delight in the Installation of ‘Sengol’
Although Subrahmanyam didn’t receive a response to her email, she recently discovered that the sceptre would be installed in the new Parliament building, bringing her immense joy. She believes that the presence of ‘Sengol’ in the building of India’s secular government symbolizes justice and the transfer of power.
This development highlights the recognition and preservation of cultural symbols in the country’s prominent institutions.
