Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to visit Japan and Singapore from May 23 to May 31, 2023, with the aim of promoting investment and inviting industrialists to participate in the Global Investors meet to be held in Chennai in January 2024. The announcement was made after he laid the foundation stone for a new AC plant in Chennai by the Japanese major, Mitsubishi. The visit is expected to enhance the relationship between India and Japan.
Purpose of the Visit
Stalin’s trip to Japan and Singapore is aimed at attracting foreign investments and inviting industrialists to the Global Investors meet scheduled to take place in Chennai in January 2024. The trip is also expected to help in building strong relationships between Tamil Nadu and these countries.
Stalin’s Visit Agenda
During his trip to Japan and Singapore, Stalin is expected to meet with industrialists, hold talks with them, and sign Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs). The Chief Minister will attend road shows to attract investors and also meet Tamil diaspora in both the countries.
Significance of the Visit
This will be Stalin’s second official foreign trip since taking office in May 2021. His earlier visit to the United Arab Emirates garnered investments worth Rs 6,100 crore. Stalin’s visit to Japan and Singapore will aid in achieving his ambitious target of making Tamil Nadu a $1 trillion economy by 2030. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is confident of achieving the target, and this visit will be a stepping stone in that direction.
