The Mumbai-based automaker, which unveiled the electric SUV concept on Wednesday, hopes that the new product will appeal to consumers who value individuality and design differentiation. The automaker intends to launch the electric version of the coupe-style SUV first, followed by trims with internal combustion engines. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra told PTI that the SUV segment is rapidly fragmenting into various sub-segments, with a clear demand for differentiated products.
“It’s also clear that SUV buyers have a stronger desire for design differentiation. Today we’re going to show you a coupe body style with SUV characteristics “He stated this.He went on to say that our goal here has been to provide customers with a product that is the perfect combination of modern functionality and design. With a strong SUV DNA at its core and a slew of cutting-edge materials, features, and interfaces, the company believes this coupe concept will redefine mainstream SUV design.
Chandra, who also oversees the company’s EV division, stated that the company has taken a three-step approach to introducing increasingly advanced electric products to customers. “So we have generation 1 products that have been launched based on ziptron architecture, leveraging successful ICE vehicle platforms…these are primarily focused on overcoming the barriers to EV adoption,” he explained.
The automaker is now moving to generation 2 architecture with the ‘Concept CURVV’ SUV, which will help to increase EV adoption in India by removing current barriers.
“We promised and delivered a certified range of more than 250 kilometres in generation 1 models. We expect generation 2 products to have a driving range of 400-500 kms and a fast charging option “Chandra elaborated. The product would also have technologically advanced features, such as connected features that would allow for a seamless connection with the outside world.
“As a result, we are fortifying the key pillars of range, performance, and technology while maintaining safety and dependability. With this SUV concept, we’re taking the next big step toward making electric vehicles more desirable “According to Chandra.
Tata Motors, which reported a 353% increase in EV sales last fiscal year compared to 2020-21, stated that the generation 2 EV architecture will be advanced, flexible, and capable of offering multiple powertrain options.
“In its production version, the Concept CURVV will offer customers unprecedented versatility of use… It will be a good fit for the fast-paced lives of city dwellers who value and expect shorter charge times, interactive and intuitive interfaces, faster response, and feature comfort not only in their daily lives but also from their cars “It was noted.
In the domestic market, the company currently sells three electric models: Nexon EV, Tigor EV, and Xpres-T EV.
