In a recent development, the sculptor Arun Yogiraj from Mysuru has gained attention for carving a 51-inch idol of Lord Rama, known as Ram Lalla, intended for installation at the Shri Ram Janambhoomi in Ayodhya. However, the decision on the idol’s color has become a point of contention among the trustees of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Sculptor’s Choice: Shyam Rang Idol
Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, announced on January 1 via social media that Arun Yogiraj’s Ram Lalla idol would be installed in Ayodhya. The sculptor used “shyam shila,” a bluish-black stone, to craft the idol.
Trustee Dispute: Shyam vs. Shwet
A meeting held on December 22 saw a majority of the 11 trust members favoring the “shyam rang” (dark-colored) Ram Lalla idol. However, an inconclusive outcome emerged due to a senior trustee’s preference for a “shwet” (fair-colored) Ram, leading to a temporary impasse.
Path to Resolution
While the decision appears to be in favor of Arun Yogiraj’s sculpture, the disagreement among trustees has created a deadlock. The ongoing debate over whether the idol should be “shyam” or “shwet” is expected to be resolved soon.
