The first verified case of monkeypox in Switzerland was discovered on Saturday in the canton of Bern, where a person caught it through “close bodily contact abroad.”
The person went to the doctor because they had a fever, a rash, and were feeling unwell, according to the canton, who added that the person was isolated at home and the sickness was progressing in a “benign” manner. The canton said that they had alerted a person with whom they had been in contact.
