The Hyderabad-Vijayawada Highway in Telangana has been severely affected by heavy flooding caused by the overflowing Munneru River. As a result, traffic between Hyderabad and Vijayawada has come to a standstill, leading to a massive traffic jam and disruptions in the region.
Diversion of Vehicles at Kodad
Vehicles heading towards Vijayawada from Hyderabad have been diverted at Kodad in Telangana due to the flooding. This diversion has resulted in an extensive traffic jam stretching up to a distance of five kilometers on the Kodad-Huzurnagar road. The situation has caused significant inconvenience to commuters and travelers.
Floods Inundate National Highway 65
The heavy flow downstream in Khammam district has led to the flooding of the key National Highway 65 at Itavaram near Nandigama in NTR district. The highway has been submerged, exacerbating the traffic snarl and causing further complications for transportation.
TSRTC Services Suspended
In response to the floods, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has taken the necessary safety measures and suspended its services between Hyderabad and Vijayawada on the national highway. Instead, buses are being operated through an alternate route via Miryalguda, Piduguralla, and Guntur, with a frequency of every 30 minutes.
Stranded Passengers and Traffic Regulation
The situation has left many passengers traveling by TSRTC and Andhra State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses stranded for hours. Initially, authorities attempted to regulate traffic on one side of the four-way highway, but due to both roads being submerged, they had to eventually suspend the movement of vehicles entirely.
Rescue Operations by NDRF
In addition to the highway disruptions, the flooding in Telangana’s Mulugu district has led to a rescue operation by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The NDRF teams, along with the district administration and police, have been working to rescue villagers trapped in Kondai village, which has been submerged by overflowing water from the Jampanna Vagu, a rivulet. The rescue efforts have been challenging, and the situation remains critical.
The floods have caused significant disruptions to transportation and have led to the loss of lives in the region. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to mitigate the impact of the floods on the affected areas. Commuters and travelers are advised to exercise caution and seek alternative routes until the situation is under control.
