Police said two local CPI(M) leaders were arrested for allegedly raping a fellow woman comrade of the ruling Marxist party in this north Kerala district.
They said the accused, identified as P P Baburaj and T P Lijesh, were arrested on charges of rape, trespassing on property, and criminal intimidation of the complainant woman, who was a member of the CPI(M) Vadakara branch committee.
A Sreenivas, Kozhikode Rural SP, told P T I that both were apprehended near here on Monday morning in Karimbanapalam. Local police, however, stated that they were unaware of the two’s political backgrounds.
The victim, married to her and a mother of two children, alleged that three months ago Baburaj barged in and rape her.
Afterwards, he kept abusing her several times, blackmailing each time to expose her husband’s relationship to others, according to his complaint that Lijesh also raped her and threatened her to do so.
The victim, fatigued by the two’s harassment, approached the police and lodged Saturday’s complaint.
The victim was examined by the police and received a detailed statement prior to the arrest of the two perpetrators, according to police sources.
