Union Minister Anurag Thakur criticized opposition parties’ attempts to form a coalition ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, the opposition parties stated that the selection of a leader for the united platform will be decided at a later stage.
Ravi Shankar Prasad Questions Opposition’s Unity and PM Candidate
The day before, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad also derided the opposition meeting, questioning who their prime ministerial candidate would be. He highlighted the friction within the opposition and characterized their alliance as a gathering of selfish individuals pursuing power. Prasad suggested that they are attempting to join forces because they are unable to challenge Prime Minister Modi individually. He stated that India desires a stable government rather than a group of people engaged in constant infighting.
Mega Opposition Meeting in Patna with Prominent Leaders
The mega opposition meeting is scheduled to take place on June 23 in Patna, and it will witness the participation of numerous prominent opposition leaders. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will be among the attendees. Other notable leaders expected to be present include Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Sharad Pawar, MK Stalin, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Farooq Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti.
Nitish Kumar’s Prediction of Early Lok Sabha Elections
Earlier this month, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar predicted that the Lok Sabha elections might occur earlier than planned. He claimed that the ruling BJP is concerned about his efforts to unify the opposition and that they may opt for early polls to counter the momentum of the opposition’s unity bid.
