The Yogi Adityanath Cabinet in Uttar Pradesh has given its approval to the UP Township Policy-2023 during a key Cabinet meeting. This policy allows for the establishment of colonies on plots measuring up to 12.5 acres in towns with a population below 2.5 lakhs. In larger cities, townships can be spread across 25 acres. This approval was part of a series of 33 key decisions taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Key Decisions at the Cabinet Meeting
The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath resulted in several other important decisions:
- Mahatma Buddha Agricultural Technology University: The establishment of the Mahatma Buddha Agricultural Technology University in Kushinagar was approved. The university will be allocated 390.54 acres of land, and an estimated budget of Rs 750 crore has been allotted for this project.
- Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang University: The Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang University in Chitrakoot was recognized as a state university. The university’s chancellor, Jagadguru Rambhadracharya, who is visually impaired, will continue to hold the position for life.
- State University Staffing: Staffers in state universities will now be employed under state university rules. Additionally, 50% of the university’s intake will comprise students with disabilities. This will be the second university for students with disabilities, alongside Shakuntala Mishra University.
- Indo-Israel Center of Excellence for Food: An Indo-Israel Center of Excellence for Food will be established in Sirathu, Kaushambi. This center will focus on research work related to guava, gooseberries, and banana. A plantation campaign is set to begin in July, with the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, assessing previous plantation drives.
- Medical Colleges on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Mode: The proposal for establishing medical colleges on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode in Mahoba, Mainpuri, Baghpat, Kasganj, Hamirpur, and Hathras has been approved.
- Renaming of Institutions: The Prayagraj National Law University will be renamed as Dr Rajendra Prasad National Law University, and the State Sports University in Meerut will be renamed Major Dhyanchand Sports University.
- Sanskrit School Renovation and Revival: The Cabinet approved a proposal for the renovation, revival, and establishment of Sanskrit schools. The government will bear 95% of the expenditure, with the remaining 5% facilitated by the management. There are currently 357 such schools in the state.
- Microenterprise Accident Insurance: A proposal for microenterprise accident insurance has been approved. Small-scale entrepreneurs can now claim accident insurance benefits of up to Rs 5 lakh under the Chief Minister’s Accident Insurance Scheme.
- Helicopter Service for Tourism: A helicopter service will be initiated to promote tourism in Agra and Mathura.
- Reopening of Sugar Mill: The sugar mill in Mathura, which has been closed since 2009, will be reopened.
- Traders’ Welfare Day: The Cabinet approved a proposal to celebrate Traders’ Welfare Day on June 29, the birth anniversary of a fifteenth-century warrior, philanthropist, and close aide of Maharana Pratap.
These decisions reflect the diverse range of topics addressed in the Cabinet meeting, covering areas such as education, agriculture, infrastructure, and tourism development.
