In response to an unprecedented surge in the number of devotees participating in the Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government has suspended offline registrations. The move comes as part of a series of measures to manage the overwhelming influx and ensure the safety and convenience of all pilgrims.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized the need for a well-regulated system to handle the large number of visitors, highlighting the collective responsibility to ensure a safe pilgrimage experience. In light of this, online registration has been made mandatory for all pilgrims wishing to undertake the journey.
The suspension of offline registration is aimed at preventing overcrowding and facilitating a smoother flow of pilgrims to the sacred sites. To enhance the effectiveness of the online system, the government has instructed officials to improve its functionality and accessibility.
Health concerns have also been a significant factor in the new regulations. With a notable increase in elderly pilgrims, the government has mandated health examinations for those aged 50 and above. Additional medical personnel, including specialists, have been deployed along the pilgrimage routes to provide necessary medical support.
In addition to these measures, the VIP darshan facility at Badrinath has been temporarily suspended to ensure equal access for all pilgrims and maintain the sanctity of the temple premises. The use of cell phones within a 200-meter radius of the temple has also been banned to preserve the sacred atmosphere.
Since the yatra season began on May 10, over 555,000 devotees have visited the Char Dham sites, with registrations exceeding 3 million. This record-breaking turnout underscores the importance of the yatra for many devotees and highlights the need for stringent crowd management strategies.
