An Italian woman named Paola Perruccio was arrested on Monday after a Vistara flight from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai was disrupted due to her unruly behavior. Perruccio, who held an economy class ticket, insisted on sitting in business class and became violent when stopped by crew members.
According to a statement by Vistara, Perruccio punched a cabin crew member, spat on another, and walked partially naked up and down the aisle, hurling abuses and assaulting crew members. The pilot had to issue a warning card and restrain the passenger in the interest of other customers’ safety. Upon landing, Perruccio was arrested by the Mumbai police, and a charge sheet was filed against her within a day.
The incident is the latest in a string of reported cases of unruly passengers misbehaving on flights in India. Airlines have faced extra scrutiny over the past year due to incidents involving drunk passengers and mechanical failures. The Mumbai Police’s quick filing of a charge sheet in this case highlights the need for stricter regulations for air travel.
