New Delhi, September 29, 2023: Vivek Agnihotri’s much-anticipated film, “The Vaccine War,” hit theaters on Thursday but failed to make a mark on its first day. This comes as a surprise following the enormous success of Agnihotri’s previous film, ‘The Kashmir Files,’ which was a box office hit. However, “The Vaccine War” struggled to live up to the high expectations. On its opening day, the film managed to bring in a mere Rs 1.3 crore, disappointing both the makers and the audience.
High Hopes Dashed
Agnihotri’s previous work had set a high bar for his latest release. “The Kashmir Files” had struck a chord with the audience, generating significant buzz and financial success. Therefore, the anticipation for “The Vaccine War” was notably high. Unfortunately, the film could not replicate the same success as its predecessor.
Facing Tough Competition

Adding to the challenges faced by “The Vaccine War,” it had to contend with tough competition from another film, ‘Fukrey 3,’ which also had its release on September 28. The clash at the box office further impacted the film’s performance.
India’s First Bio-Science Film
“The Vaccine War” is India’s first ‘bio-science’ film, shedding light on the scientists responsible for creating India’s Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, amidst the pandemic. While the film garnered mixed reviews from critics, it seems that the general audience response has been lukewarm.
A Disappointing Debut
The lackluster box office collection on its opening day raises questions about the film’s future prospects. With high expectations and tough competition, “The Vaccine War” faces an uphill battle to make a mark in the Indian cinema landscape.
