BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has announced that the final decision on the venue for the upcoming Asia Cup will be made after the conclusion of the IPL final. The two highly anticipated India-Pakistan games are expected to be held in Sri Lanka, despite the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) preference for Dubai.
Uncertainty Surrounding Asia Cup Hosting
The hosting of the Asia Cup has been a topic of debate due to the Indian cricket team’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan without the permission of the Indian government. In response to this, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi proposed a ‘Hybrid Model,’ where four games would be hosted in Pakistan and the remaining matches would be played at neutral venues.
Decision to be Made with ACC Dignitaries
To finalize the venue, a meeting will take place on the sidelines of the IPL final, attended by top dignitaries from the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Bangladesh Cricket Board, and Afghanistan Cricket Board. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah expressed the need for further discussion among the officials before making a final decision on the hosting rights of the Asia Cup.
While the Pakistan Cricket Board prefers Dubai as the venue, Sri Lanka is being considered as an alternative. The PCB is open to playing in Sri Lanka if the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) matches the gate receipts amount that Sri Lanka Cricket received from the Indo-Pak games in Dubai.
