The Congress has been demanding a direct response from PM Modi since ethnic violence erupted in Manipur on May 3.
Congress Questions PM Modi’s Priorities
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh raised concerns about PM Modi’s priorities, pointing out his recent call to the Home Minister regarding the flood situation in Delhi. Ramesh questioned why PM Modi did not make a similar call when he was abroad in the United States while Manipur was experiencing unrest. He accused the Prime Minister of maintaining complete silence on the Manipur crisis.
PM Modi’s Response from France
PM Modi called Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena from France to inquire about the flood and waterlogging situation in Delhi. Lt Governor Saxena reported that the Prime Minister directed the authorities to take appropriate steps and seek assistance from the central government to address the situation in Delhi. However, his silence on Manipur has drawn criticism.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Responds to EU Parliament’s Discussion on Manipur Crisis
The MEA criticized the European Parliament’s discussion on the developments in Manipur and the adoption of a resolution, considering it as interference in India’s internal affairs. The resolution made serious claims about the causes of the clashes in Manipur and highlighted concerns about minority communities and divisive policies. The MEA spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, stated that such interference is unacceptable and reflects a colonial mindset. Indian authorities at all levels, including the judiciary, are actively engaged in maintaining peace, harmony, and law and order in Manipur.
Ongoing Violence in Manipur
Manipur has been experiencing violent clashes, particularly between the Kuki and Meitei communities, for nearly two months. According to reports, more than 150 people have been killed and several thousand injured since the ethnic clashes began on May 3. The situation remains tense in the state.
