Patrick Schick of the Czech Republic scored an incredible halfway line goal against Scotland in their 2-0 Group D win at Hampden Park in Glasgow during the ongoing UEFA Euro 2020 competition.
Schick’s screamer in the 52nd minute doubled the Czechs’ lead after his opener just before halftime in the first half.
Schick took advantage of a dispossessed Scottish forward just outside the opposition penalty area, launching a counter-attack. Schick outwitted Scottish keeper David Marshall, who was caught off guard by Schick’s sudden attack on goal with his left foot from the halfway mark.
Two goals for nothing came from the Czech Republic victorious. Both teams were fortunate enough to score from the beginning, but it was Schick who began the Czech scoring.
Schick scored the first goal in a tall header to net the ball from Marshall at the top corner.
There were many opportunities that sprang up to Scottish players, all thanks to Czech keeper Tomas Vaclik’s brilliance. In contrast to just 10 in Czech Republic, Scotland took 19 shots.
The Scottish finish was, however, inaccurate because only four shots against the Czeches had been targeted.
The disappointment was visible on the faces of the Scottish players, because the ball had more possession and more passes than the opposition were registered.
On 19 June next, Scotland will play England and one day before in Group D, the Czech Republic will face Croatia.
