Battlegrounds Mobile India is the new PUBG Mobile for India. Krafton, the parent company, announced that the new mobile title would soon be released with a royal experience fight for players in India awaiting the relaunch of PUBG Mobile. But there will be visible changes in Battlegrounds Mobile India, which are more or less the result of the ban last year. According to the privacy policy mentioned on the new website by the company, players under the age of 18 will need their guardian’s permission to play Battlegrounds Mobile India.
Krafton said in the Privacy Policy document that minors – who are not 18 yet – must furnish their parents or guardian contact number which will subsequently be required to verify your registration process. Following parents’ authorisation, people under the age of 18 will be considered eligible for the game. There are now a couple of loopholes, most important being the lack of a robust system to verify the number of contacts these players can provide. Minors will find it very easy to misuse this rule because most have their own mobile numbers. You can easily fool the system by entering your phone number instead of the authorization of your parents.
At present, there is little clarity as to how this verification method would work. The easiest way to do that is with a single password, which is the most widely used two-factor internet authentication method. And if this is true, kids may not even have to trick the system. Parents’ or guardians’ smartphones are often available at home to children, and it will be easy for them to read an OTP. There is even the possibility of a call centre to monitor Battlegrounds Mobile India’s testing process. Krafton said nothing about how the new privacy policy would work at this point, so let’s wait for more details.
In addition, Battlegrounds Mobile India will include a gaming limit that Krafton announced for the so-called PUBG Mobile India last year. The limit guarantees that a single player who does not reach the age of 18 cannot play the game after three hours a day. This is a step in the right direction, and although some might contest the move, the game limits appease critics who have often talked at length about the negative effects of protracted gaming. In fact, it was one of the reasons the government was persuaded last year to ban PUBG Mobile.
Krafton has also set limits on in-app shopping in mobile India’s Battlegrounds. Minors will be allowed to spend as much as Rs 7,000 on in-app purchases after receiving due permission from their parents to play the game.
