According to the PTI, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari called for harsh punishment to be meted out to the Aam Aadmi Party on Friday for allegedly violating city residents’ privacy by tapping into their phones. Tiwari claimed during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha that the Delhi government is tapping the phones of residents and visitors in the name of feedback.
When questioned about it, Tiwari stated, “This is a violation of our fundamental right.”
The BJP’s northeast Delhi MP claims that the phone calls were monitored by the feedback unit set up by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
“The question here is whether the Aam Aadmi Party government is also sharing the data it is gathering through illegal surveillance,” Tiwari said, calling for an investigation.
Tiwari previously told the media that Manish Sisodia was caught spying on political leaders under the guise of running a Feedback Unit in 2015. Instead of investing in Delhi’s future, public funds were being misused. Tiwari previously stated that the investigation was complete and that a case would be filed against Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
The feedback unit’s mission was to collect useful data and constructive criticism about the operations of the various government agencies, autonomous bodies, institutions, and other entities under the jurisdiction of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). With a budget of Rs 1 crore set aside for “secret service expenditure,” the department was able to begin operations in 2016.
The CBI, on the other hand, claims that the Arvind Kejriwal administration “collected political data in addition to the mandated information.” It was also stated that the unit did not have Lieutenant Governor approval. Furthermore, the CBI claimed that 60% of the FBU’s data was related to surveillance and counterintelligence.
