On Wednesday, the first batch of 150 pilgrims from Telangana embarked on their journey to Saudi Arabia for the annual Haj pilgrimage. They departed from Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on a special flight operated by Vistara Airlines.
Chanting of ‘Talbiyah’
The pilgrims started their journey with enthusiasm, accompanied by the chanting of ‘Talbiyah,’ a special prayer invoked during the Haj pilgrimage.
State Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and state Haj Committee chairman Mohammed Saleem flagged off the buses carrying the pilgrims at Haj House in Hyderabad.
Number of Pilgrims
Approximately 7,000 pilgrims, including pilgrims from certain districts of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, will depart from Hyderabad this year.
Haj House Arrangements
The Haj House in Hyderabad has been converted into an embarkation point for the pilgrims. The Haj committee has made all necessary arrangements, including food and accommodation, for the pilgrims arriving from various districts of Telangana.
Services at Haj House
At the Haj House, various departments offer services such as vaccination, passport distribution, customs clearance, baggage screening, and currency exchange under one roof. Boarding passes for the pilgrims are also issued at the Haj House.
Duration of Haj Camp
The Haj camp, which started on June 5, will be operational for 18 days.
Vistara Airlines Flights
Vistara Airlines will operate46 special flights for Haj pilgrims from Hyderabad until June 22. Three Haj flights are scheduled daily from June 8 onwards.
Restoration of Haj Quota
After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, the Haj pilgrimage resumed in 2022 with a reduced quota. However, this year, the Saudi authorities have restored the pre-Covid quota, allowing approximately 1.75 lakh pilgrims from India to perform Haj. This is a significant increase compared to the previous year.
