The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Delhi is expected to experience light rain today. The weather agency has predicted a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain later in the day. Here’s a closer look at the weather conditions in the capital city.
Weather Update
Delhi residents can look forward to a temporary relief from the sweltering humidity, as the IMD forecasts light rain. The minimum temperature is projected to settle at 29 degrees Celsius, which is three notches above the normal range. At 8:30 AM, the relative humidity stood at 76 percent. The Safdarjung Observatory, the primary weather station in the city, recorded a minimum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius.
Temperature Trends
In the preceding days, Delhi witnessed temperatures slightly above the average. On Monday, the city recorded a low of 28.4 degrees Celsius, which was two notches above the normal range. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature reached approximately 38.1 degrees Celsius, indicating a four-notch increase above the normal range.
Rainfall Forecast
The IMD also provided information that Delhi might experience light rain over the next two days. However, this rain is not expected to significantly impact the temperatures. Despite the above-average rainfall in the past four months, August has presented a different scenario. The total rainfall in August has been 85 percent less than the normal average, creating a notable rainfall deficit.
Regional Impact
Recent heavy rainfall in Chandigarh and its vicinity led to a drop in temperature, providing relief from the oppressive conditions. The rain provided respite to residents from the sultry weather. The adjoining towns of Mohali in Punjab and Panchkula in Haryana were also affected by the rain spell.
Rain-Related Incidents in Himachal Pradesh
Conversely, Himachal Pradesh faced a grim situation due to rain-related incidents. The death toll climbed to 78, with major landslides claiming 24 lives. Since the onset of the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh on June 24, 338 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents and road accidents. Additionally, 38 people are reported missing, according to the state’s emergency operation centre.
