Delimitation Of Lok Sabha Seats Based On Population: Unfair To Southern States, Says Telangana Minister KTR

Telangana Minister KTR expressed his concerns about the proposed delimitation of Lok Sabha seats based on population after 2026, arguing that it would be unfair and painful for the southern states to receive fewer seats. He called for leaders and citizens from all southern states to unite and raise their voices against this perceived inequality.
Disproportionate Impact on Southern States

KTR emphasized that a population-based delimitation would disproportionately affect the southern states, which have effectively managed their populations through progressive policies. Reports suggest that while the southern states would see a decline in their Lok Sabha seat allocation, the northern states, which have struggled with population control, would experience a significant increase.
Unjust Penalization of Progressive States
KTR argued that states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana, which have successfully implemented population control measures, are being unjustly penalized for their progressive policies. Despite constituting only 18 percent of India’s population, these states contribute a significant 35 percent to the country’s GDP.
Urgent Need for Fair Delimitation Process
Asserting the pivotal role of the southern states in national economic development, KTR emphasized that they should not be undermined by an inadequate Lok Sabha delimitation process. He called for the acknowledgement of the grievances faced by the southern states, which endure severe injustice despite their forward-thinking policies that benefit the nation.
