EaseMyTrip CEO Rikant Pittie Backs Piyush Goyal’s Call for Tech-Driven Startups, Rolls Out ₹200 Crore Electric Bus Vision

In the midst of rising debates around the direction of India’s startup ecosystem, EaseMyTrip CEO and co-founder Rikant Pittie has come out strongly in support of Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s recent remarks on the need to shift startup focus towards deep technologies like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and robotics.

Goyal, speaking at Startup Mahakumbh 2025 in New Delhi, emphasized that Indian entrepreneurs should prioritize innovation in advanced sectors instead of focusing solely on areas like grocery delivery and luxury consumer goods. The minister also cautioned against confusing wealth-backed luxury ventures with true startups.

Reacting to the comments, Pittie took to LinkedIn to outline EaseMyTrip’s journey from a bootstrapped startup to a global travel tech leader, and how the company is aligning with the minister’s broader vision.

Embracing a Vision of Innovation and Sustainability

“Minister Piyush Goyal’s visionary leadership has long inspired us to think big, innovate relentlessly, and pursue sustainable growth,” wrote Pittie. He praised the minister for highlighting the need to “move beyond quick fixes in favour of deep tech, sustainability, and long-term innovation.”

Pittie pointed out that EaseMyTrip has been actively integrating green technologies into its operations, including a massive electric mobility push through the brand’s latest initiatives.

EaseMyTrip’s ₹200 Crore Commitment to Electric Mobility

In a major step toward green travel and self-reliant transport, EaseMyTrip plans to invest ₹200 crore into its Easy Green Mobility initiative. The goal? Launching 4,000 electric buses across India by 2028, aimed at redefining intercity travel through sustainable practices.

An integral part of this transition was the company’s acquisition of YoloBus, a tech-forward intercity travel platform known for its focus on efficiency and sustainability.

“Building on the success of YoloBus, we introduced Easy Green Mobility to develop electric mobility solutions,” Pittie said. “This isn’t just about manufacturing buses—it’s about transforming how we travel while creating a sustainable ecosystem that drives economic growth and empowers local talent.”

Promoting Atmanirbharta in Indian Mobility

Pittie further emphasized the company’s focus on local innovation and reducing dependency on foreign technologies, reiterating the importance of self-reliance in India’s mobility sector.

“We’re paving the way for a future that is electric, sustainable, and unmistakably Indian,” he stated, calling for collective efforts across startups to embrace long-term transformation over short-term gains.

Global Expansion with an Indian Core

While the company pushes for green mobility domestically, it is also expanding globally, maintaining the spirit of Indian innovation on the world stage. EaseMyTrip’s global foray is built on the same foundation of tech-led, customer-centric travel solutions, reinforced by its growth in recent years.

With an ambitious roadmap and strong government alignment, EaseMyTrip is positioning itself as a leader in India’s travel tech and green mobility ecosystem. Rikant Pittie’s open endorsement of Piyush Goyal’s deep tech vision reflects a maturing startup landscape that is beginning to prioritize sustainability, innovation, and nation-first thinking.

As India continues to script its startup growth story, voices like Pittie’s and companies like EaseMyTrip will likely be at the heart of the next wave of transformation.
