Experts says that the Delta plus variant, a Delta strain mutant first detected in India, was detected in 22 individual cases in three states, including Maharashtra, as India emerged from the mortal second wave of Covid.
The new variant might trigger a third wave, fear experts at Maharashtra. In Ratnagiri’s and Jalgaon’s, parts of Kersala and Madhya Pradesh, Delta Plus cases have been discovered.
“The Center provided these States with advice on their response to public health. We don’t want to take a larger form with this small number, “Head of the National Administrative Vaccine Expert Group, VK Paul said.
Maharashtra has been already preparing a third wave, reporting most of these Delta Plus cases, which some experts warn might arrive earlier than originally anticipated.
The state collects data such as the history of travel and the vaccine status of those who have reported the virus.
The concern is that this strain is little known, which according to Dr. Paul is now in 9 countries – the United States, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Switzerland, Japan, Poland, Russia and China apart from India. “It’s worrying because we don’t know enough how from here it will be.
In the variants we saw, some very different scenarios came up with,” said Om Shrivastava, a member of the Covid Task Force at Maharashtra.
“We know that the delta wave is very infactious in other parts of the world and spreads quickly and can affect a large number of people in the shortest time,” said Dr. Shrivastava, head of the Jaslok Hospital Infectious Disease Unit.
Maharashtra sequenced the genome from 100 districts samples. “The samples of around 21 Delta Plus cases have been taken since 15 May,” said Rajesh Tope, Minister of Sanitary Maharashtra The delta plus is now considered highly infectious and highly propagated as the Delta strain, which is now spread to 80 countries.
Resistance to the existing Covid treatment protocol may also be demonstrated. There are concerns about the effectiveness of current Delta Plus vaccines.
While in India the Serum Institute of India Covishield and Bharat Biotech Covaxin are being used, the Government has stated that data on how they work on the Delta Plus is effective against the Delta variant later on.
Rajesh Bhushan, Union Health Secretary said, “We shall soon share additional information with you. “It’s an interest variant at the moment, not a problem variant,” said Dr Bhusha
