Investigation Underway
The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohammed Shafik’s death. Preliminary findings indicate that the father and son had completed their statement recording and were preparing to return to Delhi. However, tragedy struck when Monas discovered his father hanging inside the bathroom. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had summoned Mohammed Shafik as a witness in their probe of the train arson case. Prior to his untimely death, Shafik had already appeared before the investigating agency on May 17 and 18. Monas, the deceased’s son, is reported to be a friend of the accused Shahrukh Saifi.
Train Arson Incident Overview

The train arson incident took place on April 2 in Kozhikode district, resulting in the death of three individuals, including a baby. Shahrukh Saifi, the accused, set his co-passengers on fire aboard the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train near the Korapuzha bridge in Elathur, Kozhikode. While three people lost their lives in the attempt to escape the flames, nine others sustained burn injuries.
The police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Railway Act, and Explosive Substance Act. Recently, the National Investigation Agency’s Kochi unit took over the investigation of the case.
