After the brake pads of the Durg-Puri Express caught fire in Odisha’s Nuapada district, a major train mishap was averted, and fortunately, no casualties were reported. The incident occurred when the brakes of the B3 coach were not released after the alarm chain was pulled. As a result, the brake pads caught fire due to friction. Smoke was detected in the B3 coach as the train reached Khariar Road station in the evening.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) stated that there was no fire inside the coach; the fire was limited to the brake pads. Passengers panicked upon discovering the fire and quickly evacuated the train.
