A French court on Wednesday upheld the three-year sentence of former President Nicolas Sarkozy in a corruption case. The court of appeals ruled that Sarkozy should serve three years in prison, with two years suspended, for charges of corruption and influence peddling. In addition to the prison sentence, Sarkozy has been banned from holding public office for three years. The case against Sarkozy stemmed from his attempt to obtain information about a legal investigation from a judge through a secret telephone line, which was discovered through wiretapping. Sarkozy, who served as France’s President from 2007 to 2012, is now facing the consequences of his actions.
