At the end of this month, Oogle Photos ends its free unlimited backup plan service. In November of last year, Google announced that it would no longer provide its unlimited free storage of “high-quality” pictures from 1 June 2021 on Google Photos. This means that users will have to pay extra charges for additional storage starting next month.
Photos currently provide all users with unlimited free storage. However, after June 1, the company will limit Google Photos’s free storage to 15GB and users will have to pay for a monthly Google One subscription for any additional storage. It would therefore be best for you to back up all your precious Google Photos memories as soon as possible and avoid paying for your Google One subscription.
However, this does not apply globally to pixel users. You’ll get an unlimited free high-quality photo backup on Google Photos if you own a Pixel device.
What happens to the photos and videos uploaded after June 1 to Google Photos?
All high-quality photos and videos uploaded to Google Photos before the deadline will not count toward the 15GB of Google account storage. This means that all photos and videos backed up before June 1 in Google Photos are still free and free of the storage limit.
What’s changing for Google Photos users after June 1?
After June 1, the 15GB limit for Google account storage is counted for all the photos and videos uploaded to Google Photos. This means that you can either pay for Google One subscription for additional cloud storage when you have reached your storage limit or delete content to continue free storage.
