BJP Slams Rahul Gandhi: “Congress Has a Habit of Making Absurd Statements,” Says UP Deputy CM

After Rahul Gandhi’s claims about the Election Commission in Boston, Keshav Prasad Maurya accused Congress of spreading falsehoods and undermining Indian democracy.

Habit of Congress to make absurd statements has once again come into the spotlight after Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. This came in response to Gandhi’s recent remarks in the United States, where he questioned the credibility of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Habit of Congress to Make Absurd Statements: BJP Counters Rahul Gandhi’s US Speech

Speaking in Boston, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission was “compromised” and pointed to irregularities in voter numbers during the Maharashtra elections. He claimed that:

  • 65 lakh voters were added in just two hours, which he said was “physically impossible.”
  • More people had allegedly voted than the actual population of Maharashtra.
  • The system, according to him, had “something fundamentally wrong.”

These allegations received immediate backlash from BJP leaders, who accused the Congress of trying to malign constitutional institutions on foreign soil.

BJP Defends EC, Labels Congress Strategy “Absurd”

Responding sharply, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya said:

It’s the habit of Congress to make absurd statements whenever they lose. When they win, the EC is fair; when they lose, it’s compromised. This has become their pattern.”

Maurya stated that public support lies with the BJP, and no amount of baseless international criticism can change electoral outcomes. He accused the Congress of deliberately damaging national institutions for political mileage.

Sanjay Nishad Adds Fire to the Debate

Backing Maurya’s statement, UP Minister Sanjay Kumar Nishad also lashed out at Rahul Gandhi. Drawing from the Ramayana, he remarked:

“There is a saying — you see what you think. These parties have misused power for 70 years, protected by the same institutions they now vilify.”

Nishad suggested that Congress’ frustration stems from its declining influence in Indian politics and its inability to accept defeat with dignity.

Why BJP Calls It a Habit of Congress to Make Absurd Statements

This is not the first time that BJP has labeled Congress remarks as exaggerated or false:

  • In previous elections, similar claims were made about the ED, CBI, and Supreme Court.
  • Congress has been accused of using international platforms to question India’s internal democratic processes.
  • BJP sees this pattern as a deliberate strategy to erode public trust in democratic bodies.

The phrase “habit of Congress to make absurd statements” is being increasingly used by BJP leaders to summarize what they view as repetitive and baseless attacks from the opposition.

Reactions from Political Circles

Rahul Gandhi’s US remarks are now being discussed widely across political and media circles. Here’s what different stakeholders are saying:

  1. BJP Leaders: Calling it a threat to India’s democratic image abroad.
  2. Congress Supporters: Arguing that Gandhi is simply raising valid questions on electoral transparency.
  3. Neutral Observers: Warning that such international commentaries can harm India’s global standing if not substantiated.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has not officially responded to Gandhi’s remarks.

What This Means for You as a Voter

The recurring narrative that it’s the habit of Congress to make absurd statements could shape voter perceptions as the country gears up for more elections. For the average citizen, this raises important questions:

  • Can constitutional bodies be criticized from abroad without consequence?
  • Are such allegations based on facts or political frustration?
  • How should voters interpret claims and counterclaims from top leaders?

Ultimately, the credibility of India’s democratic institutions lies not just in the systems themselves, but in how political parties choose to engage with them.
