Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated the Tirupati Balaji Temple in Jammu and Kashmir, situated in the scenic Shivalik forests in the Majeen area. Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, Minister of State Jitendra Singh, and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha were physically present at the inauguration event.
Temple Details and Significance
The Tirupati Balaji Temple, constructed on 62 acres of land with an approximate cost of Rs 25 crores, has been completed in a span of two years. It is one of the largest temples in the Jammu region and is expected to boost religious and pilgrimage tourism in the Union Territory (UT). The temple is located approximately 10 kilometers from Jammu and about 40 kilometers from Katra. A video of the temple was shared earlier by news agency ANI.
Jyotiraditya Scindia’s Statement on Temple Construction
During the inauguration ceremony, Union Minister of Tourism Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) is not only constructing temples dedicated to Lord Tirupati Balaji across the country but also working to prevent instances of religious conversions. The Jammu temple becomes the sixth Balaji temple constructed outside Andhra Pradesh, with TTD having previously built temples in Hyderabad, Chennai, Kanyakumari, Delhi, and Bhubaneswar. TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy mentioned that the construction of the temple was almost completed, and it would be inaugurated on June 8, with rituals starting from June 3.
Importance of the Temple Location
The Tirupati Balaji Temple has been built at a holy place on the route between Jammu and Katra, where the renowned Mata Vaishno Devi temple is located. The temple’s inauguration is expected to provide devotees with an additional spiritual destination in the region.
