The Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has initiated the process of inviting global tenders for the selection of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the prestigious Hyderabad Airport Metro Project. The project aims to connect Mindspace Junction near the Raidurg metro station with the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad. The tender, with an estimated worth of Rs 5,600 Crore, is a significant step towards the development of this major infrastructure project.
Comprehensive Open Tender for All Civil Structures
NVS Reddy, the managing director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd (HAML), highlighted that the tender is comprehensive and encompasses various aspects of the project. The estimated contract value is Rs 5,688 crore, covering the design and construction of all civil structures, including elevated viaducts, underground structures, stations, track works, electrical and mechanical works, rolling stock (train sets), electric traction and power supply, signalling, telecommunications, train control systems, and automatic fare collection (AFC) gates. It is a significant investment towards ensuring a robust and efficient metro system.
Exclusions from the Tender Application
While the estimated cost of the project is Rs 6,250 crore, the tender value of Rs 5,688 crore excludes certain elements that fall under the purview of the government or HAML. Costs related to the general contractor (GC), contingencies, multi-modal integration, and other items are part of the total project cost but are not included in the tender application.
Progress and Future Plans
Significant progress has already been made in the preliminary works, including survey, peg marking, and alignment fixation. Soil testing is also underway. Based on the updated alignment fixation and survey, the 31-kilometer corridor between the Airport terminal station and the Raidurg metro station will consist of an elevated portion of 29.3 km and an underground portion of 1.7 km. The route will include nine stations, including one underground metro station adjacent to the airport terminal.
Future Expansion and Development
Considering the potential for large-scale development of commercial and residential buildings along the airport metro line and the vision of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to provide cost-effective housing on the outskirts, provision has been made for the construction of four additional stations in the future. This expansion will enable easier access and facilitate a reverse commute to workplaces in the city via the airport metro line.
Bid Submission and Tender Documents
The last date for bid submission is July 5 of this year. The voluminous tender documents will be uploaded on the Telangana government’s e-portal, providing interested parties with the necessary information to participate in the tender process.
