The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) is all set to host a grand event called ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ at Parade Ground in Hyderabad on May 27, starting at 6 am. This event is part of MDNIY’s ongoing initiative to promote yoga across India, in collaboration with various stakeholders. As a part of this initiative, MDNIY has launched a 100-day countdown program, featuring events held in different locations such as New Delhi, Dibrugarh, and Jaipur.
Encouraging Citizens to Embrace Yoga and Showcasing India’s Rich Yoga Heritage
The objective of the ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ event and the 100-day countdown program is to encourage citizens to embrace yoga in their personal lives and promote the country’s rich yoga heritage to the global community. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy highlighted the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative, which led to the United Nations General Assembly designating June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014.
Promoting Yoga Accessibility and Involving Gram Panchayat
The International Day of Yoga (IDY) has a primary focus on making yoga accessible in every village across India. The initiative actively involves Gram Panchayats (village councils) and Gram Sabhas (village assemblies) in promoting and practicing yoga. The MDNIY’s 100-day countdown program and the ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ event contribute to this larger goal of spreading the benefits of yoga throughout the country.
With an expected attendance of over 20,000 yoga enthusiasts, the ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ aims to attract celebrities, sports personalities, and senior officials from both state and central governments. This year’s International Day of Yoga aligns with India’s G20 presidency theme of “One World, One Health” and embraces the concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).
