The Hyundai Exter micro-SUV is breaking barriers by offering 6 airbags as standard, a rare feature in its segment. This groundbreaking addition sets a new benchmark for safety in sub-4 metre SUVs. Typically, this segment does not see such comprehensive safety features due to cost reasons, and even higher-segment SUVs often lack this feature.
Extensive Safety Features and Specifications
The upcoming Exter micro-SUV from Hyundai will provide Driver, Passenger, Curtain, and Side airbags across all trims. Additionally, it boasts a total of 26 safety features, including optional ones on the E and S entry-level trims. These features include ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), HAC (Hill Assist Control), 3-Point Seat Belt, seatbelt reminder for all seats, ABS with EBD, and Burglar Alarm.
Furthermore, the Exter offers a range of other safety-enhancing features such as Dashcam with a dual camera, TPMS (Highline), ISOFIX, Headlamp Escort function, and Rear Parking Camera. The inclusion of a dashcam adds an extra layer of safety, making it a convenient feature for drivers. Notably, the Venue N Line also offers this feature.
Engine Options and Variants
The Exter micro-SUV will be equipped with a 1.2L petrol engine and will also have a CNG option. Transmission choices will include an AMT option as well as a 5-speed manual. However, it is worth mentioning that the CNG version will be available with select trims. On the other hand, Hyundai has decided not to offer a diesel engine or a turbo petrol variant for the Exter.
Market Position and Competition
The Hyundai Exter micro-SUV aims to compete with rivals such as the Tata Punch and other vehicles in the sub Rs 15 lakh SUV segment. As an entry-level SUV, it complements Hyundai’s existing SUV lineup, which includes popular models like the Venue and Creta. With its feature-packed offering and emphasis on safety, the Exter is set to make a significant impact in the highly competitive SUV market.
