Twitter and Instagram announced over the weekend that they had to limit Kanye West’s account since the rapper’s anti-Semitic comments had been removed.
After being banned off of his Instagram account by Facebook parent company Meta Platforms Inc on Friday, he returned to Twitter on Saturday and wrote for the first time in two years.
West’s first tweet since 2020 was a blurry photo of him and Meta Platforms founder Mark Zuckerberg karaoke-ing. “Mark, have a look at this,” someone tweeted. How long will I be barred from Instagram?
West responded on Twitter, saying, “You guys have flirted with me and tried to blackball everyone who opposes your agenda.” Twitter removed his post in which he denied being anti-Semitic because it violated their policies. On Sunday, a Twitter official verified that his account had also been suspended.
Since billionaire Elon Musk, a self-described free speech absolutist, welcomed West’s return to the platform and responded to a post by the rapper with the tweet “Welcome back to Twitter, my friend! “, Twitter Inc’s move to freeze the musician’s account was significant.
West has previously made incomprehensible online comments. Instagram banned him for a day earlier this year after he made racist remarks about comedian Trevor Noah.
West’s Instagram account was suspended following a since-deleted remark in which he invoked anti-Semitic tropes, accusing a musician of being controlled by “the Jewish people.” This was before to West’s early Saturday morning tweet.
West’s Instagram account was momentarily restricted on Saturday, preventing him from posting, commenting, or sending direct messages.
